Making the most of a British holiday

The staycation is here to stay. With the rules on international travel still restrictive, families across the four nations are pinning their hopes of a summer holiday on a fantastic break right here in the UK.

In 2020, the staycation was the holiday of choice for most families as travel abroad was restricted for most of the year. For many staycationers, it was the first time they had enjoyed exploring the country on holiday and many enjoyed it.

If you are planning on embarking on a staycation in 2021 but are unsure how to make the most of exploring the UK on holiday, then check our guide on how to make the most of a British holiday.

Hire a motorhome and travel

If you are looking for a staycation adventure, why not hire a motorhome and explore the UK by road? There are so many motorhome options to choose from too, from simple campervans to state-of-the-art recreation vehicles. Plan your finances and make sure that any purchases fit into your budget.

Try a romantic city break

We often think of Paris or Venice when we consider taking a romantic city break. However, there are beautiful, romantic cities right here that have been inspiring romance for centuries. Top of the list are Edinburgh, Bath, York and Stratford-upon-Avon – the birthplace of famous romantic William Shakespeare.

Subscribe to the National Trust

With over 180 sites, the National Trust cares for the largest collection of historic properties, parks and gardens in Europe. An annual subscription allows you to visit all National Trust sights at no additional cost, meaning you will never be stuck for something to do while on staycation in the UK.

Try your hand at camping

From the Lake and Peak Districts to the Scottish Highlands and Brecon Beacons, the UK is in no short supply of breath-taking camping destinations. Wild camping has become popular in recent years but if you are just starting out try booking into a managed campsite with conveniences.

Try cycling or walking trips

Activity holidays are a great way to see the UK during your staycation. The English coast path is a 4,500km long interconnected route of coastal paths that offer unparalleled walking and cycling opportunities.  You can book hotels and B&Bs along the route to make the most of the English coast during your staycation.
