Horror at Motel 6, Tampa, FL

This motel was at the perfect location for me as I needed a place to stay near the Hard Rock Casino that was both reasonable and convenient. As is typical for Florida, the temperature was quite high, so the fact that there would be a pool available was certainly a welcome relief for me.

You can imagine how disappointed I was to learn that it had been closed down. Not only that, but despite the fact that it was mentioned as an amenity, there was neither paid nor free WiFi available at the hotel.

At that point, I was debating whether or not I should go somewhere else, but in the end, I decided to give this motel another shot because it was already too late to start looking for another place to stay. Oh boy how I wish I knew what I was getting into!

The memories of my time in Motel 6 will, sadly, be etched indelibly into my mind for the rest of my life, even if I never see another motel at all. Everything, from the front desk to the towels in the bathroom, was of an appalling standard.

I couldn’t sleep since the staff was impolite and condescending, the roaches were too friendly for comfort, I could hear the rain and dogs barking in the room so loudly that they kept me awake, and the towels had the texture of sandpaper. But imagine if it were the only thing that was bad!

During my whole time, I did not have a single moment in which I felt either safe or comfortable. I’m aware that we’re not talking about the Ritz Carlton here, but there has to be some type of benchmark, right? When I was younger, I always assumed that the notions that people had about criminals and problematic individuals staying in motels were just silly movie cliches, but the movie Motel 6 revealed that those notions are accurate.

The other visitors were undoubtedly prostitutes and drug traffickers; there was fighting, yelling, and crying; suspicious characters looked at me as if I were the one who was suspicious… It appeared as though some individuals lived in the motel permanently because there was a baby crying nearby; these are not the kind of people you would want to have as neighbors! I cannot express how relieved I am that I did not bring either of my sons with me.

When examined more closely, it appears that everything is filthy. The sheets were filthy, and the blankets were riddled with holes all over the place. Mold and cigarette smoke filled the whole odor profile of the building. Even the cockroaches appeared to be filthy. Are you not providing them with food? It surely felt like these insects are permanent residents only tolerating us humans in their home.

I had a reservation for four days, but I ended up leaving after only two nights since I couldn’t sleep. I was not given a refund, and I was unable to make any kind of contact with the manager. This did not come as much of a surprise to me given the general atmosphere of the establishment. I will not be returning, and I strongly advise you to avoid staying at any of the locations in this motel network during any of your future vacations.More information can be found here.
