In 2020, Chennai Super Kings had a rough year after failing to get in the playoffs. This was the first occasion this had happened to the team in IPL history. In the 13th edition of IPL, CSK managed to win only six and lost eight matches. As a result, they finished seventh in this season.
Last year, they faced a few problems that held them back from getting in the playoffs. First, they had an inconsistent opening combination. Even if Faf du Plessis made a decent score with the bat, his partner, Shane Watson, failed to make any form.
However, for this year, Hussey, CSK batting coach, feels that the team is balanced in preparation for this year’s league.
CSK is making a fresh start and has even bought players such as Moeen Ali, Cheteshwar Pujara, Robin Uthappa, and Krishnappa Gowtham in the IPL 2021 auction. However, they did not change their leading players but made only a few tweaks.
According to Hussey, the additions they made for the Indian Premier League 2021 are excellent. Moeen is an outstanding all-rounder, and Robin is experienced and has a great scoring history. Additionally, Gowtham is talented and will aid in developing the team further.
Hussey continues to say that the squad is in great spirits and has been preparing enough. With the upcoming IPL, Hussey says that they need to have a good start so the players can relax and play the matches with confidence. Hussey, the former Australia batsman, said that they would reduce the pressure that can build up on everyone involved in the league by relaxing. If the team plays a block of matches in Mumbai, the players will settle and build confidence.
Excellent players have been seasoned in the batting department, such as Faf du Plessis, Cheteshwar Pujara, Ambati Rayudu, and Suresh Raina. In addition, Ravindra Jadeja has been added to the CSK team.
The conditions in the Wankhede were good for both batsmen and bowlers. The matches started well, and even the CSK team players felt good about their games.
